Get a Sneak Peek: How I Decorate My Home for the Holidays

People are often curious how we decorate our own homes for the holidays at Meade Design Group; well, your resident Christmas fanatic has returned to give you a peek into my home!

This should not be a shock to anyone who knows me, but I like to decorate with the colour pink. I already have a pink accent wall, accessories and throw pillows, so it only makes sense. And hey, if you ask me: if hubby doesn’t want to help decorate, he gets no say in the colour scheme!

Pink Decorations, Detail

For ornaments, I use a combination of several sources throughout the years, I like to add a little something new each time I decorate. This year, I added the pink-chrome balls which have a faceted look. They were fairly inexpensive, but I think they add some nice dimension and feel a bit vintage which I like for the holidays. I like to add lots of icicle-style and other elongated shapes to emphasize the height. one of my favourite decorations is a very old one from when I was about 5 years old, it’s a cat dressed like a ballerina; if you pull the sting it ‘dances’. I follow the Meade Design Group mantra that there is no such thing as too many ornaments!

Dining Room, Tree, Art

Tree in my Dining Room

I put my tree in my dining room, our home has a relatively small, but open footprint, so I can see it throughout the main floor without needing to rearrange furniture. I admit, it’s artificial, but only because I like to start so early to get the most of it! (This decor was put up the last weekend in November)

Christmas Decorations

Mantle

I like to have candles out which infuse some holiday cheer, as well as some sprigs of natural greenery for that classic scent – Christmas music is also constantly on this time of year. We need to celebrate using all of our senses!

I carry a simplified version of the tree throughout our home – using  (artificial) greenery atop our hallway mirror, down our stair rails, and atop our mantle; tucking in pinecones, Christmas balls, icicles and cinnamon sticks (multi-purpose: looks and smell!).

I of course, also like to coordinate my wrapping; using different shades of pink, white, silver and gold (I get princess papers for the little girls, and maybe myself too!). Nothing completes a present like a beautiful bow.
